Artifact Donations
The Museum welcomes donations of artifacts, photographs, and
documents that are related to Kenora, Keewatin, Jaffray Melick, and
Lake of the Woods. However, not all offerings may be accepted. In
determining the acceptance of items, the staff are guided by the
criteria outlined in the Museum's Collections Management Policy.
For this reason, we would ask potential donors to please contact
the Museum prior to bringing in donations, so that the staff can
give them an idea whether the Museum will be able to accept the
item or not. In some cases, and if possible, staff may wish to
examine the item(s) before a decision is made.
If your donation is accepted, arrangements will be made for
delivery or pick-up. You will be required to sign a donor form.
This document forms the legal contract between the donor and the
Museum. By signing the donor form, the donor
- Confirms that they have a legal right to donate the item to the
Museum.
- Gives and bequeaths to the Museum, the object(s) with the
understanding that the Museum may use, display, or dispose of the
object(s) as may seem to the Museum Board to be in the best
interests of the Museum.
- Understands that the item, once donated, cannot be returned to
the donor, a member of the donor's family, or any other person,
except under those conditions stated in the Collections Management
Policy.
Personal information contained on this donor form is collected
pursuant to the Municipal Act, 2001 and will be used for the
purpose of fulfilling the above request. Questions about this
collection should be directed to: The Freedom of Information and
Privacy Coordinator, City of Kenora, 1 Main Street South, Kenora,
ON, P9N 3X2, (807)467-2027.
Each item is then accessioned into the Museum's collection. It
is assigned a catalogue number and a full description of the item,
along with the donor information, is entered into the Museum's
collection management database. The item will then be stored or
displayed and cared for in the best possible physical
environment.
