Lecture by Hudson's Bay Company Archivist
James Gorton
Thursday, May 13
6:30pm
Regular Museum admission
The Museum welcomes James Gorton, the Hudson's Bay Company archivist, who is ending his speaking tour of Northwestern Ontario in Kenora on May 13th.
Mr. Gorton will be speaking about the Hudson's Bay Company Archives and the many resources - photographs, documentary art, maps, architectural drawings, moving images, and textual records - available to researchers.
The records document the story of the HBC since its inception in 1670, following the history of the fur trade, North American exploration, the development of Canada as a country and the growth of the HBC's Canadian retail empire. Prior to 1975 these records were housed in London, England, and were for the exclusive use of the Company. Since their move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, they have been open to the public.
Come and learn more about this national treasure.

There were 6 prisoner-of-war camps on Lake of the Woods during World War II. The lumber camps housed German prisoners who were set to work out in the bush cutting timber. The Museum has several boat models built by the prisoners at those camps.
